Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets - and human lives.
In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her...
But the struggle isn't over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there's still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure — and re-education — looms larger than ever.

Ok, so The Fiery Heart is now my favourite Bloodlines novel so far. I never thought anything could top the awesomness of The Indigo Spell, but The Fiery Heart did.
Sydney made her decision in The Indigo Spell that she was going to rebel against the Alchemists by having her tattoo deactivated but she was going to remain an Alchemist to spy on them. Sydney finally gave into her feeling for Adrian (hooray!) only to have her sister Zoe show up as an Alchemist in training and she's going to be working with Sydney.
God, Sydney had a lot on her plate in this book didn't she? Not only was she trying to hide the fact that she with with Adrian and that she'd deactivated her tattoo from Zoe, she was also trying to replicate the substance used to break Alchemist tattoos. Also, Sydney was still trying to harness her magic and learn to defend herself. Her sister wasn't making this easy on her. I actually really admired Sydney's strength in this one. If I were her, I probably would have punched Zoe because she's such a whiny little bitch. She was always trying to get one over on Sydney and always threw her under the bus whenever the opportunity arose. But Sydney was even more awesome in this one that she was in the previous books and I just love her.
We got to her from Adrian in The Fiery Heart! I can't even begin to explain how happy I was when I saw Adrian's name above one of the chapters. I've been dying to hear from Adrian's POV for ages, and I'm so glad I finally got to! Hearing from Adrian just made me love him even more. I loved getting an insight into what Spirit actually does to him and I just honestly loved getting to see how Adrian thinks. He's such a considerate and sweet character and I adore him even more now.
My Sydrian feels went into overdrive in this one because THEY WERE A COUPLE! Every single moment they spent together had me smiling because THEY'RE JUST TOO PERFECT TOGETHER. I need more Sydrian.
Of course nothing ever goes smoothly in a Richelle Mead book. There's always trouble around the corner when a couple finally get together and this one was no different. Zoe was the main obstacle in Sydney and Adrian's way - which is why I was hoping she would die. I just really really hated Zoe (especially at the end). There were a few more secrets uncovered in this one and I could feel that everything was building up towards a massive ending. The ending killed me. I'm not even joking. My heart just... broke. And I cried. A lot. I kind of saw it coming because of the whole phone thing, but that didn't mean I was prepared for it. I didn't expect it to be as horrible and emotional as it was! And now I need Silver Shadows badly because I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS.
Overall, this is definitely my favourite in the Bloodlines series so far. There's still two books to go so no doubt my favourite will change again. I'm just completely in love with this series and I'm going to have to buy them all so I can re-read them and torture myself until Silver Shadows comes out in July.
I couldn't agree more! Haha, if you punch Zoe, I'll make sure to add the final kick in after ;) I LOVE ADRIAN SO MUCH TOO~ AND I LOVE SYDRIAN EVEN MORE. Gosh, they are so perfect together, I can't even express. Amazing book <3
ReplyDeleteYES! And then maybe she'll go away and Sydney and Adrian can live happily ever after <3 I LOVE THEM BOTH TOO! They are. There are no words for their perfection <3
DeleteOk, the next book comes out in July? That means I have plenty of time to read VA and then the rest of this series right before the next book comes out, so I can finish this one and have the next one out! =D
ReplyDeleteHaha, yes! You've got looooads of time to read them! And then when you do you'll be in the same boat as me and waiting for the 6th Bloodlines book! :D
