Annie and Fia are ready to fight back.
The sisters have been manipulated and controlled by the Keane Foundation for years, trapped in a never ending battle for survival. Now they have found allies who can help them truly escape. After faking her own death, Annie has joined a group that is plotting to destroy the Foundation. And Fia is working with James Keane to bring his father down from the inside.
But Annie's visions of the future can't show her who to trust in the present. And though James is Fia's first love, Fia knows he's hiding something. The sisters can rely only on each other - but that may not be enough to save them.

Ever since I read Sister Assassin last year, I've been eagerly awaiting the sequel. Perfect Lies was everything I could have asked for in a sequel. It was full of twists, it was intriguing and the characters kept me guessing right to the end.
Annie and Fia have been manipulated by the Keane Foundation for years and Annie has finally managed to escape after faking her death. Annie joins a group that is plotting to destroy the Foundation. Fia is working with James on the inside to bring down James' father. Annie is having visions that leave her confused and unsure who to trust. Fia starts to realise that James is hiding something from her. The sisters can only rely on each other, but that might not be enough.
Fia's habits of repeating words and tapping continued in this book but they actually didn't bother me as much in this one. I got a better understanding of why she continually tapped and I started to feel for her. I actually managed to connect with Fia a lot more in this one. She became more human and just wanted to do everything she could to protect her sister. Fia is a strong and confident character, but she was also scared. She was becoming even more unstable as the book went on because ultimately, I think she knew what she had to do. She's an extremely flawed character, but I grew to love her in this one.
I always really loved Annie. Annie is so excited in this one to be free of the Foundation, but she's worried about Fia. Anna is having confusing visions, and one vision in particular makes her fear for Fia. Annie is strong in her own way, but she's also very gullible. There were moments when I wanted to shake her and try to make her understand what she was completely missing! But I still really loved Annie. She's such a sweet and vulnerable character.
Annie and Cole's relationship was one of my favourite parts of this book. They didn't just fall in love straight away, they actually started off disliking each other. Cole would always say something that had me laughing and left Annie blushing. As soon as they met I wanted something to happen between them and I kept my fingers crossed throughout the whole book. And then when Annie had the vision, I was so hoping that Cole would be that guy. They were just so adorable together.
I never really got Fia and James together. Honestly, I never saw what Fia saw in James. I was always convinced that James was going to betray Fia. Plus, James isn't a very likable character. He always came across as a complete ass, so I could never get behind their relationship.
The story is told from both Annie and Fia's POV's, but is also told from two different times. Annie's is set further back than Fia's but ultimately, they both lead up to the same moment. I never found this confusing or hard to grasp at all. I actually really loved it. Seeing what Annie and Fia were both doing without each other and seeing both of their journeys up to the event at the end was fascinating. This book was full of action and so many twists that it kept me guessing right until the very end. There were so many ways that this book could have ended, but I'm glad it ended the way it did.
Overall, Perfect Lies was a great ending to this duology. I'm extremely satisfied with the way this book ended for both Annie and Fia, but I would really love to see a bit more of Fia. The Mind Games duology has been a great series and I would definitely recommend it.
I really enjoyed this one, but it took me a while to get into the narrative style again. I think I would have loved it even more if I would have read both books back to back!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree, it was easier to connect with Fia this time. But still, I think this one was Annie's book, more than Fia's.
Great review, Samantha!
It didn't take me too long to get back into this world. I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more if I'd done that too.
DeleteIt definitely was Annie's book, but Fia grew more as a character in this one.
Thanks!
