Ember Hill left the dragon organization Talon to take her chances with rebel dragon Cobalt and his crew of rogues. But Ember can't forget the sacrifice made for her by the human boy who could have killed her—Garret Xavier Sebastian, a soldier of the dragonslaying Order of St. George, the boy who saved her from a Talon assassin, knowing that by doing so, he'd signed his own death warrant.

Determined to save Garret from execution, Ember must convince Cobalt to help her break into the Order's headquarters. With assassins after them and Ember's own brother helping Talon with the hunt, the rogues find an unexpected ally in Garret and a new perspective on the underground battle between Talon and St. George.

A reckoning is brewing and the secrets hidden by both sides are shocking and deadly. Soon Ember must decide: Should she retreat to fight another day…or start an all-out war?

Rogue picks up not long after Talon, and Ember, Riley and Wes are on the run from Talon and St. George. Garret has been taken back to the St. George headquarters and will stand trial for his new found love of dragons and he knows he will most likely be found guilty and sentenced to death.

Ember is determined to save Garret like he saved her so she convinces Riley and Wes to help her break into the St. George headquarters and rescue him - just in the nick of time. So all four of them are now on the run from Talon and St. George.

Meanwhile, Ember's brother Dante is working with Talon and he's devising a plan to try to get her to return to Talon - of her own free will or by force if necessary. He's determined to prove himself to Mr Roth who is one of the bosses in Talon. He wants to show Mr Roth that he's nothing like his sister and that he's dedicated to Talon.

Ember is still determined to get her brother out because she's convinced if he finds out the truth about Talon, he'll come with her. She's reckless and impulsive which gets her and everyone around her in trouble quite a bit. She's also extremely confused about which side of herself to listen to - the human side or the dragon. But Ember is a total bad ass in a fight!

I'm not a huge fan of Riley mainly because of the way he acts towards Ember - it's like he thinks he owns her and I'm so not OK with that. He can be a bit of a dick, but he spends most of his time putting his own life of the line to save hatchlings from Talon, so I don't hate him too much.

Garret is a soldier down to the bone. He can't relax and is constantly paranoid about people following them because of how he was brought up and trained. He's confused about his feelings for Ember because he's been taught to hate dragons, but he's falling for her. He regrets everything he did in his past and wants to make things right.

Wes makes me laugh. He's super smart and hilariously funny, and he's the only one in the group that has their head screwed on properly!

I'm only a fan of one half of this love triangle, and that would be Ember and Garret. Ember and Garret are just so sweet and adorable when they're together. Garret is letting go of everything he's been taught to be with her and I just love the two of them together. As for Ember and Riley, I don't like how Riley thinks he has a claim to her just because she's a dragon. Sorry, but Ember is allowed to make her own choice. She's doesn't have to be with Riley just because he's a dragon.

So they gang go on the run and end up in Vegas where Riley is convinced there's someone who can help them, but Talon and St. George are already hot on their tails so they have to act fast.

The ending left me slightly upset and a little bit heartbroken. I'm looking forward to seeing what's going to happen after that part and the alternating chapters in the next book will definitely be interesting. Also, Mr Roth revealed something to Dante that's left me anxious for book 3! I can't wait to see what's going to happen now!

Overall, Rogue was a fantastic follow up to Talon. It was action packed and kept me on my toes throughout the entire book! I can't recommend this series enough, it's amazing!

  1. I didn't read your review because I've yet to get to Talon. But I saw your rating, so that's good. I think that means you liked it as much as Talon. Yea? YAY for no second book syndrome!
