"You have to kill him." Imprisoned in the heart of a secret military base, Em has nothing except the voice of the boy in the cell next door and the list of instructions she finds taped inside the drain.

Only Em can complete the final instruction. She’s tried everything to prevent the creation of a time machine that will tear the world apart. She holds the proof: a list she has never seen before, written in her own hand. Each failed attempt in the past has led her to the same terrible present—imprisoned and tortured by a sadistic man called the doctor while war rages outside.

Marina has loved her best friend James since the day he moved next door when they were children. A gorgeous, introverted science prodigy from one of America’s most famous families, James finally seems to be seeing Marina in a new way, too. But on one disastrous night, James’s life crumbles apart, and with it, Marina’s hopes for their future. Now someone is trying to kill him. Marina will protect James, no matter what. Even if it means opening her eyes to a truth so terrible that she may not survive it. At least not as the girl she once was.

I'm at a loss for words with this book. When I finished reading it, I kind of just sat and stared at my kindle for like 20 minutes. This book was just completely fantastic that I sat and went over the whole story again in my head, especially the ending, because everything about this book was flawless.

It didn't take me very long to piece together what was happening at the start of the story because of Finn, and when I did I was desperate to know what the event were that led up to what Em was going through. So I was pretty happy that we got to see those events from Marina's POV.

I grew attached to Em straight away. Even though she's in such a horrible position, she's managed to stay strong. She was still funny and sarcastic, but mostly she was determined. Determined to do whatever she could to rectify this situation and make sure that it never happens to her again.

Finn was another character that I loved straight away. Finn was such a sweet character and he's always cared about Em. He's so sarcastic, and had me laughing a lot throughout this book. I just loved seeing him and Em interact. They were great together.

Marina was a good character too. She was kind of shallow and naive though, when it comes down to it. She judges people and tends not to want to give them a chance. But she does change throughout the book. I enjoyed seeing her development.

James was a character that I was slightly unsure of. He never seemed to be all there and he was constantly in his own head thinking. He seemed to use people so that he wasn't by himself. I did like his character though.

So this is a book about time travel! Em & Finn go back in time and it was great to see their perspective of a time they'd already lived through while also seeing the perspective of Marina who was going through everything for the first time. It was great seeing everything from Em & Marina because they're both completely different and have different perspectives of everything.

The action in this book as brilliant. There was shootings and all out fight scenes, which were superb. Everything was so fast paced that I was completely hooked. Yet again, this is another book that kept me up until 2am because I was so desperate to find out how everything was going to play out.

There's a twist with the villain in this book, and although I had an inkling of who it was, I was still extremely shocked when everything came out at the end. Cristin Terrill did a fantastic job of keeping me on my toes with all the twist and turns in this book.

The ending was shocking and heartbreaking. I was in tears. Everything that happened in the last couple of chapters was so overwhelming and beautifully written.

Overall, this was one of my favourite books of July. It was full of action, suspense and so many twists and turns that had me on edge the whole way through the book. It was unputdownable.
It was just released today - August 1st - and it's a book I highly recommend buying and reading because it was such an amazing story.
