St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

A couple of months ago I read the Graphic Novel version of The Vampire Academy because for some reason my library never had the first book but had the rest of the books. But my lovely boyfriend bought me a copy of The Vampire Academy last month and I just had to pick up it asap!

Although I'd got the basic storyline from the graphic novel, I loved getting the more indepth story line while reading the book. I learnt a lot more about the characters and the background of this story and I really loved that!

I adored Rose so much! She's such a badass character! She's smart, tough, snarky and so damn amazing. Her friendship with Lissa was so strong and Rose would do absolutely anything for her. She's so protective and doesn't back down, and they're the main reasons I love her so much.

I still wasn't a major fan of Lissa's character though. She still seemed so dependent on Rose and didn't really seem to have a backbone. She was always relying on Rose to fight her battles and then when she wanted to help she went ahead and abused her powers. I kind of wanted to slap some sense into her most of the time.

I adored Christian and Dimitri! They were both hot and amazing in completely different ways. Christians was the dark and brooding loner guy, and Dimiti was the extremely hot older guardian. I loved both of them so much, but I think Christian has to be my favourite <3

I loved everything about the story line of this novel. I loved learning about the different kinds on vampires and what they can all do; learning about all of the characters; learning about the history of some vampires and I adored all the action! There was so much action and a lot of unexpected twists that kept me on my toes!

Overall, this was such an amazing vampire novel. It had badass characters, an amazing story line and some girly drama (which I loved!). I definitely can't wait to get my hands on Frostbite now!

  1. Oh Rose! I love her so much! And I love that this is a YA series that focuses on female friendships rather than romance - it's a nice change. I love the different Vampires and Dimitri is one of my favourite book guys! I'm so glad you checked this out and I can't wait for you to continue on with the series because each book gets better and better! :)

    1. I love that too! It's so nice to have the friendship instead of the romance be the main story. I'm really excited to see how Rose & Lissa's relationship develops throughout the series. I'm already in love with Dimitri! I've actually reserved the rest of the series from my library, so I'm hoping they'll be in soon!

  2. I really really loved this book. So much that I decided I'd read them all when I'm absolutely free, because of which till now I've just read the first book (and loved it) and the rest are still waiting for some holiday. -_-

Yes! Rose is awesome and I too felt Lissa is too dependent on her. But still, this book was so differently awesome from the rest, I loved it. :D Worth all the hype! ;)
